In tropical countries, practically all year.

Habitat

It is found in pools and ponds with both permanent and temporary water, also brackish.

The species is reported in Florida, Texas, Central America and South America up to Argentina.

Description

Dimensions: body 38-47 mm;
                   rear wing 25-34mm,
                   abdomen 23-34 mm.

It is one of the biggest "Dragonlets", second only to Erythrodiplax funera.
Male : "Face" black with dark brown eyes, chest and dark blue abdomen, cerci white.

Transparent front and back wings with a wide central black band.

Females and juvenile: Yellow "face" with beige eyes, beige chest, beige abdomen with side friezes and stripe on the brown top.
Transparent front and back wings with a wide central brown band, white caudal terminals.
