Habitat

it is near water pools and small ponds with brackish waters.

It is a strong migrant whose range covers the entire planet and is reported on all continents crossed by the equator, it is also present in Italy (southern Sicily and the Pelagie islands).

Description

Dimensions: body 45-55 mm;
                   rear wing 32-36mm,
                   abdomen 28-34 mm.

General characteristics:  front wings long, thin and pointed, triangular rear,

eyes with the upper side of brown and bottom of gray-blue color.


Male : brown thorax with yellowish sides without friezes; a slightly tapered cylindrical, ocher-yellow abdomen, which turns red-orange in mature adults, with a dark dorsal pattern that turns black towards the extremity; appendices very elongated terminals.
Female: similar to the male, generally yellow, but there may be androcrome females.
